The future at the tip of your fingers

CrucialTec has finally made fingerprint scanning a sexy feature you’re going to want in your next phone.

CrucialTec is targeting the smartphone industry with its scanner, and it’s ready to be built right into a device’s home button.
Basic, fast fingerprint scanning is all and good, but CrucialTec’s system gets interesting with the additional security and convenience features
You can assign a different function to each of your 10 fingers. For example, the camera could be linked to your index finger, and sliding that down the home button would unlock the phone and automatically open the camera app, the scanner can also securely encrypt files.

Adding scanners to modern smartphones won’t put additional strain on the battery.

CrucialTec’s system has already been licensed by an unnamed Chinese manufacturer, and is expected to be added as a feature to a smartphone released this summer.

Apple purchased fingerprint scanner firm AuthenTec last year, its technology became an Apple exclusive. Since then, there have been rumors the next iPhone may incorporate it.

A Sapphire stronger than a Gorilla

Want a phone screen that really won't break?

Sapphire, the same aluminum oxide compound (AL2O3) better known for brilliant blue gemstones that dangle from ears and throats and can cost a small fortune can give it to you.
Apart from being one of the strongest compound materials there is -- second only to the diamond that cuts it -- synthetic sapphire is highly rigid and won't buckle or melt in high-temperature situations. It is also slow to corrode, conducts heat at low temperatures, and is known for its excellent light transmission for wavelengths well beyond the scope of human vision. The screen was just as responsive as regular glass on a device.

The material is more costly, about 3 or 4 times the cost of regular glass and
today there's not enough capacity to create sapphire displays en masse, but we will see an uptick in adoption at the higher end of the spectrum.

How much would you pay for a phone with a virtually indestructible screen?

New IE 10 available on Win 7

On the surface, IE10 looks just like its predecessor IE9, with the Internet bar sitting at the top of the window rather than at the bottom as it does on Windows 8 devices. Users who are familiar with the current version of Internet Explorer should be able to jump right in and start surfing with the new browser with little to no learning curve.

All the improvements made to IE10 are essentially invisible to the user, but they should make webpages load faster, up to 20 percent faster, run smoother, and provide users with more privacy

IE10 also tries to make the Internet a bit more secure for users.  Just like Firefox, which announced its updated automatic cookies-blocking feature yesterday, the Do Not Track (DNT) option is turned on by default in IE10.

Tumblr, Pinterest and Twitter on the spot due a Zendesk

Tumblr has sent out emails to its users notifying them of a security breach. However, the issue isn’t Tumblr’s system’s fault, as the hack can be traced back to Zendesk, the email and contact support client that Tumblr and a handful of other social applications use.  Pinterest and Twitter are also suffering at the Zendesk security failure.

The security vulnerability has been patched up already, Zendesk wrote in a blog post. But the damage has been done already: The hacker downloaded the email addresses of people who emailed Twitter, Tumblr, and Pinterest support. The only silver lining is that users’ passwords are safe and sound.

If you’re a Tumblr user and ever contacted its support team via email in the past 2.5 years since Tumblr has been using Zendesk Tumblr says that there’s a good chance that you’ve been affected. These are the warning words Tumblr had for users.

Facebook, New York Times and now Apple...

Today the iPhone maker confirmed being targeted as part of hacking efforts on differents companies.
Apple released this statement:

'Apple has identified malware which infected a limited number of Mac systems through a vulnerability in the Java plug-in for browsers. The malware was employed in an attack against Apple and other companies, and was spread through a website for software developers. We identified a small number of systems within Apple that were infected and isolated them from our network. There is no evidence that any data left Apple. We are working closely with law enforcement to find the source of the malware.
Since OS X Lion, Macs have shipped without Java installed, and as an added security measure OS X automatically disables Java if it has been unused for 35 days. To protect Mac users that have installed Java, today we are releasing an updated Java malware removal tool that will check Mac systems and remove this malware if found.'

Hackers targeted computer used by this employees but they confirmed that no data left Apple.
Apple blocked Java from its Mac's citing security vulnerabilities last month and the announces the release of an update in the coming days to protect  users.
The N.Y Times reported that the cyberattacks came from offices on Shangai.

Magic Keyboard

Tactus technology creates a physical keyboard for touch screen devices that appears when need it and it disappears when done.

They use microfluidics -just like inkjet printer- to make the keyboard bubble up from the screen. This fluidics fill up builded in channels on the screen to make the keyboard appear. The fluidics pressure can be adjustable so the key can be squishy like a gel pack or harder.

Right now Tactus Tech is working on polishing the technology, like a little sound that the keyboard makes when it pops up it should be silent on the final version, among other details and they hope to start production by beginning of 2014.
